Big Tings
This past Saturday we had a collaborative event with South Side Breakers combining a Ku'i Session with their Rumble In The South event at the Treasure Box Dance Studio in Waipahu.
The dance event included 1v1 and 3v3 Breaking Battles as well as a BBOY/ BGIRL Cypher Showdown.
Attendees could vote for the dancers who they thought rocked the illest moves in the cypher — the top 2 dancers who got the most votes would then battle it out for the W and cash prize sponsored by the community's own Bronson Chinen.
Why We Do It
Ku'i Sessions focuses on the artist rather than the spectacle of the form. These sessions are aimed to help develop the community by getting dancers to come out and just session; It is not about the performance, it is about growth and sharpening your skill as a dancer. We believe that these sessions help bring the community together to improve on their craft, while also building relationships with one another. Instead of the traditional competition bracket, we stream our focus to Exhibition Battles, this way, it is not about winning or losing. We want to showcase the artist progression and the up-and-coming talent to help foster a thriving future for hip-hop in Hawaii.
